About Mr. Dumpling

Mr. Dumpling is a chinese restaurant in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. It is listed at 239 S Elliott Rd, Chapel Hill, NC 27514, which places it among the local businesses of Chapel Hill that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Chapel Hill; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in North Carolina are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

Hours are published for 6 days a week. Typical hours are 11 am–2:30 pm. Note that it does not open on Tuesday. Hours in the United States do change around federal holidays and long weekends, so a quick call before a special trip is sensible. You can reach Mr. Dumpling at (919) 537-8016; calling is usually the quickest way to ask about availability, prices or directions. Its website is mrdumplingnc.com, where you may find menus, price lists or booking options.

Customers rate it 4.8 out of 5 on Google across 17 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded chinese restaurants in Chapel Hill.

Chapel Hill is in North Carolina, in the Southeast, where summers are long, hot and humid, winters are mild, and afternoon thunderstorms and the hurricane season from June to November can change plans at short notice. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Chapel Hill follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

An excellent Chapel Hill location of the restaurant that's originally further east out towards Cary . I was excited to try this one since we love the other one, and this one does not disappoint. The interior definitely has a slightly more upscale vibe, even though it is still family friendly seeing as there were multiple families with kids there. We had a huge spread. The top two favorites were the honey chicken and the walnut shrimp, both being some of the best iterations of those dishes that we've ever had. The titular dumplings are very good, and the assorted mix you can order gives you a great sampling. Big and juicy! The crispy szechuan fish was excellent, and the beef and string beans were saucy and delicious. The beef noodle soup was herbal and satisfying; my kids ate it up. The only miss for me personally was the szechuan chicken and lotus root dish, I did not find the flavor appetizing. This is now my favorite authentic Szechuan and Chinese spot near me.

This restaurant has just opened in the area and we went there on opening night. The ambience is fantastic. They have different seating options which are suitable for both couples and large groups of 6-8 people. The bar seating is nice too. All dumplings are made fresh in-house and handmade. I am so glad that they have an option for assorted dumplings which is the one we got. The dish had five different dumplings all of which were succulent and full of flavor. They also have an all-vegetarian dumpling option. The vegetarian dumplings were pan-fried and were also delicious. They also serve complimentary kimchi which had a super delicious dressing and we just loved it. We also had a taro milk tea and a brown sugar milk tea. Both were quite good. The taro flavor was subtle and just the way we like it. Staff were extremely helpful and warm which really added to our positive experience. The ambience is calm and relaxing (the music was maybe a little too loud). It is a great spot to hangout with friends or just to have a quiet dinner by yourself. The menu is quite extensive and they have a lot of options beyond dumplings. The price point is reasonable. We look forward to coming back.

Amazing Dumplings and drinks! Their boba tea was best out of the 4 placed I've had it in the triangle area. The creamy Taro drink is also fantastic.

I was really disappointed with my meal here. The meat had a very strong, unpleasant gamey/fishy odor (肉θ…₯味重), which made it hard to eat. On top of that, the prices are way too high for the quality of food you receive. I won't be coming back.
